‘Redsmith’ Rocks the Richard Goodall Gallery
You may recognise his work from the White Stripes’ album covers, but American artist Rob Jones has produced an impressive backlog of creations. From 10th December – 21st January, the Richard Goodall Gallery on Thomas Street will be exhibiting a selection of Jones’ rock posters and some never before seen exclusive images!
Described as one of America’s ‘best kept eccentrics,’ the Grammy Award Winning artist has made a name for himself with his distinctive red and black art. He has worked with some big names in the music business including The Black Keys, The Raconteurs, Spoon and The Dead Weather.
The exhibition will be a special event, accumulating many highly sought after silk screen prints under one roof. Each print is a multi-layered story with intricate details to be interpreted by the viewer. With the addition of some exclusive pieces this event should have plenty to keep you interested.
The exhibition’s title ‘Redsmith’ is an archaic term for a coppersmith and refers to the large amount of red and copper used in his inks. ‘I [originally] wanted to name the show ‘Dwarf in a Helium Hat’ after an episode of Rockford Files’ says Rob Jones, ‘It felt like an apt description of my attempts to rise to the occasion in creating imagery for such gigantic bands.’ However after a chat with Jody Goodall, ‘Redsmith’ became the obvious choice, and sums up Jones’ technique in a stylish manner.

To kick off the event, Rob Jones himself will be travelling from America to fling the doors wide open on the opening night. If you are interested in meeting the artist in the flesh, be sure to head down to the Richard Goodall Gallery on Saturday 10th December.
