New National Football Museum Mixes Anatomy with the Game

Manchester’s soon to be re-opened football museum has a very special exhibit in the pipelines – ‘The Body’, an interactive piece especially filmed for the Performance Zone which will explore the effect that playing football can have on the human body.

The ‘body’ of this piece is North West actor Thomas Woods: ‘I had to lie very still for a few hours whilst I was filmed making very small movements, such as blinking me eyes, and tensing my muscles. I can’t wait to see the finished interactive, I know visitors will be fascinated by what they will see on the table!’

Visitors will be able to see the footballer on the treatment table within the Performance Zone and examine the injuries and strains caused by playing the game, as well as finding out how top players manage to stay in shape. The exhibition promises to be informative for children and adults alike, and will host more than 140,000 bits of memorabilia over three floors to keep visitors busy! The museum will hold objects, pieces of artwork and photographs, and even include the nationally-recognised Hall of Fame. Highlights will include the 1966 World Cup Final ball and shirts from the world’s first international match in 1872 and the one Maradona wore during the infamous 1986 ‘Hand of God’ quarter final match between England and Argentina. Expect hands on interactives to spice things up even more, and a specially designed temporary exhibition programme to show there are more sides to football than expected. There will also be a built in café and restaurant to rejuvenate visitors after an exciting day of football fun – what more could you ask for?

The National Football Museum will be re-opening within the Urbis building in 2012, and promises to be a ‘must see’ attraction for visitors and locals alike.
