24:7 Theatre Festival Takes Cente Stage in its Call for Scripts

Celebrating its ninth year, the 24:7 Theatre Festival in Manchester is once again preparing to discover talented playwrights and help a variety of productions come to life in 2012.
24:7 aims to provide a stepping stone for those with talent in playwriting. Having just opened their call for scripts, they are currently looking for new material from both beginners and experienced writers to create 10 plays for any audience and 1 specifically for a family audience.
Over the years, 24:7 has helped many writers to have a chance in the limelight and assisted them to self-produce their own work, encouraging confidence and opportunities that have changed lives. As one first-time writer and producer stated, ‘I’ve a new play almost ready, but I might produce this one myself. I’d never have said that last May!’ Those that have their scripts chosen to be produced have the opportunity to gain experience and connections in the industry, as well as having the time of their life!
With this year’s festival turning out to have many sold-out events, there are high hopes for 2012. Scripts have already started entering the office and the team are already buzzing, but there is still plenty of time to create and enter a script as the deadline is 9th January.

Whilst 24:7’s focus is on the playwright, there are also opportunities open to those in other areas of the theatre industry.
